The Normies (“The Normies”, “we”, “us”) run thenormies.com. We are based in Indiana, United States. This policy explains what information we collect when you use this website, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Memberships themselves are sold and billed by Patreon and Fourthwall, not by this website. When you join or pay through either of them, their privacy policies apply to that relationship: Patreon and Fourthwall.

1. What we collect

When you log in with Patreon

Early Access and Premium content on this site is unlocked by logging in with your Patreon account. When you do, Patreon sends us:

• your Patreon user ID, display name and email address;
• your membership status with The Normies on Patreon, including your tier and pledge amount and whether it is active;
• access tokens that let us re-check your membership status with Patreon later.

We use this to create an account for you on thenormies.com and to decide which content you can watch. We re-check your membership with Patreon from time to time so that access stays accurate. We never see your payment card or billing details; those stay with Patreon.

Things you do while logged in

If you add shows to your watchlist, we store that list with your account so it is there next time.

When you contact us

The contact and partnership forms ask for your name, email address and message. Submissions are emailed to us so we can reply. They are not stored in this website’s database.

Collected automatically

Like most websites, we and the services we use receive some information automatically when you visit: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the site that referred you, and your approximate location derived from your IP address. This comes from Google Analytics, Google Ads measurement, Cloudflare and our web host’s server logs.

2. Cookies and similar technologies

We use these categories of cookies. You choose whether to allow analytics and advertising cookies through the banner shown on your first visit, and you can change your choice at any time using the Cookie Settings link in the footer of every page.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as declining analytics and advertising cookies without you needing to do anything. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; if you block the necessary ones, logging in will not work.

Embedded video players and other third-party content

Videos on this site are played through Vimeo, Streamable and YouTube players. When you play a video, those companies receive your IP address and may set their own cookies under their own policies. Fonts and icons are loaded from Google Fonts, Font Awesome and the unpkg content delivery network, which receive your IP address in order to serve the files.

3. How we use information

• To give members access to the content their tier includes.
• To keep the site secure and working, including detecting abuse.
• To understand how the site is used and to improve it.
• To measure whether our advertising works, if you allow advertising cookies.
• To reply when you contact us.
• To comply with the law.

For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, our legal bases are: performance of our arrangement with you (member access), our legitimate interests (security, understanding usage, running the site), your consent (analytics and advertising cookies), and legal obligations.

4. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the services that help us run this site, each of which handles it under its own policy:

• Patreon, for login and membership status.
• Google, for Google Analytics, Google Ads, Google Tag Manager and Google Fonts.
• Cloudflare, which sits in front of the site for security, speed and performance statistics.
• SiteGround, which hosts the site and keeps standard server logs.
• Vimeo, Streamable and YouTube, whose players stream the videos.

Google Ads remarketing may count as “sharing” personal information for targeted advertising under some United States state laws. You can opt out by declining advertising cookies in the banner or via Cookie Settings in the footer.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or safety, or as part of a sale or reorganization of The Normies.

This site links to Patreon, our Fourthwall shop, Discord, Reddit, YouTube and our merchandise store. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and this policy does not cover them.

5. How long we keep information

• Your account and membership data: for as long as you have an account on this site. You can ask us to delete it at any time (see section 6).
• Contact form messages: for as long as we need them to deal with your request.
• Analytics data: according to the retention period set in our Google Analytics account.
• Server and security logs: for a limited period, as kept by our host and Cloudflare.

6. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to receive a copy of it, to object to or restrict certain uses, and to opt out of targeted advertising or the sale or sharing of your information. This includes rights under the EU and UK GDPR and under United States state privacy laws such as those of California and Indiana.

To exercise any of these rights, use the contact form. To protect your account, we will verify a request by matching it to the email address on your Patreon account. We will respond within the time the applicable law allows. If we decline a request, you can ask us to reconsider by replying to our response. Where the law permits, you may also use an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.

We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland and are not satisfied with how we handled a request, you can complain to your local data protection authority.

7. Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Becoming a member requires meeting Patreon’s or Fourthwall’s age requirements. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Where information is processed

We are in the United States and the services we use process information there. If you visit from another country, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.

9. Security

The site is served over HTTPS and protected by Cloudflare, and access to account data is limited to the people who run the site. No website can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold.

10. Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we will post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will say so on the site.
